Eastgate Facilities

This page contains information about the following topics:

Resident Storage Room

Eastgate has a small storage room located near the paper recycling in the lobby. Please read the storage room rules before requesting access to it:

  1. Every resident may have access to limited storage space on the first floor. Each apartment is allowed to store 2 storage items in the storage space. Items are limited to air conditioners, luggage, or packed boxes.  No empty boxes will be stored. No furniture or loose items are allowed. Items may be turned away due to size or space limitations.
  2. You are expected to do all lifting and moving of any objects stored. This includes any lifting or moving necessary to make room. The House Manager or maintenance staff will not assist. Please make arrangements to have any assistance you may need.
  3. No items may be stored in the walkway. Items in the walkway may be removed without notice. All items must be labeled clearly with name, apartment number, and date. Labels should be placed in such a location that they will not easily fall off of the item.
  4. The House Manager will provide access upon request during office hours. Dial 617-253-1500 during off-hours to take an item OUT ONLY.
  5. Air conditioners must be stored on the lower shelf only.
  6. No responsibility is assumed for lost, misplaced, or stolen items. You store all items at your own risk.

Accessing the storage room:

  • The House Manager will provide access upon request during office hours (8am-4pm, Monday through Friday).
  • If you absolutely must get something out of the storage room immediately and the House Manager is not available, you can call the after-hours maintenance line, 3-1500, and someone will come to Eastgate to let you in.

Courtyard Courtyard

The Eastgate courtyard (garden outside the front of the building) is for the use of Eastgate residents and their guests. The courtyard has a number of grills that can be used by residents for BBQs. The courtyard and BBQ area cannot be reserved; the facilities are available on a first-come first-serve basis, but please share the facilities.

Playground Playground

The playground can be accessed through the courtyard, and may be used by Eastgate parents and their children. During the daytime, the area is used by the Technology Children's Center (TCC).

Laundry Room Laundry Room

Laundry facilities are located on the Penthouse floor. The cost is $1 for a load of laundry and $1 for a drying cycle (one dryer can handle almost two loads of washing). You can pay by quarters or TechCash (money put on your MIT ID card). Check the status of your laundry online using LaundryView.

Please remove your clothes from the washers/dryers promptly after they are done. Only remove someone else's finished laundry from a washer/dryer if no other empty machines of the desired bleach/no-bleach type are available.

Study Room Study Room

A room is available on the penthouse level for silent study. The bookshelf in this room is used for donating books to other residents (see Reuse/Recycling for more information).

Eastgate residents (including partners who have an MIT ID card and Kerberos ID) may use the printer in the study room. To use it, follow the instructions given by IS&T.

If you have any difficulty, the IS&T's Computing Help Desk is a great resource for helping you solve the problem.

Playroom Playroom

The Eastgate playroom is located on the Penthouse floor. It is managed by the Eastgate Officers for Development and Wellbeing (eastgate hyphen devo [at] mit (dot) edu). To register for playroom membership, visit the playroom page.
